Scholarship applications are released in the spring.

  • The 2021-2022 merit-based scholarship application deadline has passed.
  • The needs-based Margaret E. Carson Scholarship deadline is May 30, 2021.

Please pay close attention to the deadlines. Your complete application must submitted by the deadline. We will NOT accept late or incomplete applications. 

Students of color who have a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0-scale and live in New Mexico for their permanent residence. They must also be either a: 

  • Graduating high school senior
  • Undergraduate college student
  • Vocational student

The Judith R. Harris Scholarship is not open to Deltas or the family members (children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews) of Delta members.

High school applicants: Do not need to be currently enrolled in college to apply but will be required to provide proof of enrollment in order to receive their scholarship. 

College applicants: Must be enrolled in college to apply and will be required to provide proof of enrollment for the upcoming school year before they receive their scholarship.

  • For the merit-based scholarships, recipients will be notified by April of the year in which they apply. 
  • For the need-based Margaret E. Carson Scholarship, recipients will be notified by Recipients of the Margaret E. Carson Scholarship will be notified by June 6, 2021.

Some payments are made directly to the student while others are made payable directly to the institution. 

No. You must apply every year to be considered.

Proof of enrollment is an official document issued by your academic institution’s Registrar. We will provide you with a proof of enrollment form for your institution to complete if you are awarded the scholarship.

As a part of the selection process, we will conduct Zoom interviews. A little nervous about doing an interview? There’s no need to worry!  Here is an article from the NY Times on tips to prepare for an online interview.   

The Margaret Carson Scholarship is the only scholarship that we offer that is open to the family of women initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. None of our other scholarships are open to family members (children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews) of Delta members.
