50th Anniversary Celebration

The Albuquerque Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrated our chapter’s Golden Anniversary on March 18, 2017!

Mona Humphries Bailey, as the Farwest Regional Director of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., presented the charter on March 18, 1967, to fifteen awe-inspiring Delta women living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We were thrilled and honored to have Mrs. Bailey, 17th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as our keynote speaker for this occasion!

The Albuquerque Alumnae Chapter’s charter members had a tremendous impact on the community and some of their names may be familiar to you. They are: Uline Hughes, Euola Cox, Joy Malry, Ellie Warren, Ina Webb, Margaret Carson, Artis Hopkins, Alfreda Taylor, Lauretta Loftus, Ann Swain, Jennie Brown, Sara Davis, Fannie Dawson, Buena Vista Green, and Dorothy McNeil.

With the wisdom, help, and guidance of our charter members, the Albuquerque Alumnae Chapter has demonstrated leadership, volunteerism, support, and public service for the past 50 years in the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area. Our chapter has also given many scholarships to high school and college-aged students. We awarded $5,000.00 in scholarships to five high school students during our celebration luncheon.

Judith R. Harris Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to the 2017 Judith R. Harris Scholarship recipients with their proud parents. Oluwadamilola Adeni, Sidiki Mudada (not pictured), Elizabeth Sanya, Paris Valencia, and Mavel Valdez. Each recipient wrote an essay about their goals, the value they place on higher education, what they saw as the most critical issue facing under-represented minorities, and their proposals to address these issues.
